Our readers want to keep in the loop with you. To get acquainted with you tell us who you are?
My name is Karen Prince. I am a visionary, educator and hair stylist who is passionate about bringing out the best in my clients. How long have you been operating your business?
I have over 20 years of experience in the aesthetics industry. I have owned shops all over the Greater Toronto Area. Recently, I opened a brand new location in Vaughan. It’s an immaculate salon in an ideal location. I worked closely with an architect to achieve the design that I wanted to achieve. In order for my clients to have an ultimate experience, I wanted them to be in an atmosphere that reflected my vision of opulence. I have achieved that look and feel in my new location. My clients have given me outstanding feedback. I welcome more to come.
What is your area of expertise?
I specialize in cutting and coloring.
Was there something or someone that inspired you to start your own business?
Before I became an entrepreneur, I use to work in an office. I knew it wasn’t for me. I wanted to make a difference in peoples lives. I felt like I had God given calling to do something that positively impacted women. I wanted to do that through hair. I had a strong yearning to be an entrepreneur.
What is your vision for your business and your clientele?
My vision for my business and my clientele is to foster a healthy environment for women from diverse and multi-cultural backgrounds. I want them to come to Salon Ka Pri to receive an experience they’ve never had before.
What motivates you daily before you start your workdays?
My passion for doing hair and making my clients feel good motivates me everyday.
What makes a great entrepreneur?
Determination. Never giving up. Helping people and having an attitude where you’re always willing to learn makes for a great entrepreneur.
What makes you stand out from the rest?
I constantly educate myself through courses, services and liaising with other successful people in the industry.
How do you balance your personal life with your professional life?
I make time for the things I love.
What do you do for self-care? I ensure that I take care of myself by getting facials; massages and most importantly, I eat very well. What you put into your body, you get out. I believe that health is wealth. For the business that I’m in I need lots of energy and endurance. I’m on my feet and on the move for the majority of the day.
Keep us In the Loop with the best advice that you’ve been given that you’d share with other entrepreneurs?
Always put others first. I do for others what I would do for myself.
What is your definition of success?
I work towards success frequently. I believe success is having a balanced life. This includes balance in the areas of spirituality, finances, family and friends.
