#KEEPINTHELOOP HOW DO YOU DANCE IN THE RAIN

Take a moment to dance like no one is watching. With such a robust schedule and often minimal time to get out and dance, I decided to stop and learn some Cubano salsa moves with some cool strangers on campus. Yes, I said on campus. Soon enough, I will reveal one of the biggest partnerships I have established and how it has completely changed my outlook on the pursuit of goal getting.

After a mind-boggling macroeconomics session on a cool Spring evening, I encountered this talented group of dancers, who moved so eloquently to the sounds of music that penetrated my veins. I couldn’t help but want to dance.

Immediately, I was welcomed into the group and taught the essential steps of the joyous dance. As we moved, both the women and men with over a decade of dance experience reminded me that anyone can dance, it’s just about how your body interprets the music. Dance is a universal language, which we all understand in some way. Lastly, do not look down.

I think the last tip was my favorite more so, because I had a habit of looking down at my feet to ensure I was taking the right steps. Subsequently, after my new partners’ kind reminder with a gentle squeeze and twirl, I chuckled and thought to myself. How many times a day do I think about taking the right steps. The brief conversation with myself and through the motion with my partner changed my posture and the how freely I moved. By the third song, I was a pro.

The moral of this story is that when you dance your purpose is not to get to a certain point on the floor. It is to enjoy each step along the way and the same should be applied to life. I did not know any of the people in the group until I stopped and took a chance to try to dance with them. Remember life begins at the end of your comfort zone.

How many times do you think about taking the right steps in life? Try living a bit by doing more outside of your comfort zone.
